Been working on haiku and Asian brush paintings and getting in supplies to create for a seasonal gallery show at Rocky Neck in Gloucester Ma. Therefore not much very dazzling here today. 'ATTACK DOG' in SNOW

WINTER WONDERLAND

Welcome to our blog and the great New England weather in January. Thought we might get away with 'no snow'! Ha! Mother Nature is much stronger and more directed than we are.

Most of us were hoping to escape the 'white stuff' this year. The first photo is my back yard that has a circle of stones that I find very spiritual and has stone statues like the Fisherman o Glosta, a mermaid, a smiling buddha and now is covered with a gentle fluffy snow bringing in the New Year.

The second photo is of my 'attack dog' who is not quite sure about this 'white fluffy' stuff. Especially, when we tried to walk down the street (ladened with road salt) and a piece got stuck in her paw. She is a sweetie. This photo is for CAMERA CRITTERS ~ all about photos of animals. Have fun and enjoy. ^_^

The photos above are magical to me for several reasons. First and foremost it is always magical to me when one gets together with artists' friends to create and are using the same method (collage in this case) each one turns out so unique. Another reason is that in the first collage I created above has a magical atmosphere behind my deceased dog and reminds me of 'his mystical' presence even though he is no longer with me. Lastly in my friend Jane's collage I love the magical sparkle and movement of the dancing figure and the wonderful colors. All magical! What is magical that you have created recently?

The above photo (for my post card) is one from the side of my yard that was taken in the spring of 2011. It is really cold and wintry where we live right now. I also, at times have the 'January blahs, and thought we all might all be able to enjoy a 'bit of spring' right now. Of course, those that live in 'delightful' climates may not be impressed at all. I AM BACK

Fun to travel and especially to visit one's son and his wife and family. Yet, I agree with Dorothy in THE WIZARD OF OZ ~ 'There is no place like home.'

Managed to find my way around North Carolina while 'the family' was working before the Holiday weekend and found a delightful town, Edenton NC ~ I suppose I liked it because it had a rather New England feel to it and most importantly, it had the ocean.

The photo above was an awesome sky that occurred while I was walking the small boardwalk they had there. Met many friendly people and got to chatting a bit and just had fun! Zoe was the big calling card and brought many people of all ages over to visit.

My first attempt at Haiku ~ which is Japanese poetry that has 3 lines and the first line has 5 syllables, second line has 7 syllables and the third has 5. Please let me know if I have done these correctly. I love poetry and to be able to write Haiku is even more loving to me because I am creating my own poetry.

Are you the palace of a fairy?

It is a celebration of the Catholic 'Our Lady' and is very special Divine Feminine Energy. A big thank to Rebecca for hosting this special event that will end December 12th.

There is usually a special prompt and today it is the general holiday season. I chose the photo above because I love the lights of this season. Also, I am feeling very good about hanging five of my 'She Spirits' on my wall going up to the studio. The above painting is done on 5 x 5 artist canvas with a 2" cradle. It is professional canvas quality and done with Sennelier Oil Pastels. The red haired 'Girl Spirit' is the fifth in a series of seven. Each one is unique; yet all are redheads. Power to the Red Haired beauties. They are a tribute to my maternal side, my grandmother, mother and aunt all were red haired wonders. A Tribute to the Divine Feminine in my family and yours.

My photo above is a obviously of the moon. (Yellow for Mellow Yellow Blog Hop) I love photographing; yet, it is always a challenge to photograph the moon. The moon is very feminine to me and has been most of my life. Amazing powers the moon has from controlling the ocean tides to the water content in our bodies and thus eliciting all kinds of human responses. Make a wish for yourself or someone else on the photo of the moon. For me I am making a wish for two very special young women to find their healthy path and to continue following it and live well.

Welcome to A Creative Harbor. Today and for the next 10 days we be linked with Corazon ~ A Virgin A Day, in celebration of Our Lady's Feast Day. ( I will also have other posts as well) Because I see 'Our Lady' as the Divine within everyone and around, I will be posting some conventional images and some variations on 'Our Lady'. I respect all religions and I would hope you would respect my belief ~ which is more Taoism than anything else.

DIVINE FEMININE ~ A VIRGIN A DAY

A CREATIVE HARBOR

Welcome to a Creative Harbor and beginning December 1st through the 12th of December I will be linked to Corazon and posting a photo of the Divine Feminine who has many names. The photo below is Our Lady of Guadalupe or Our Lady of the Americas. Because of a nun who was very special in my life, Sister Agnes of the Sacred Heart (now deceased), I still have a very special devotion to Our Lady as Sister Agnes was of the Notre Dame order. I know her spirit is still 'watching over' me and hope you will enjoy the photos. Some will be very conventional ~ Some will be my vision of 'She Spirits' in honor of the Divine Feminine Consciousness.

The above photo is actually called a Santos that I purchased in New Mexico. It is a tradition there to paint saints on wood. This Santo is very special to me for many reasons and as you can see I have special trinkets hanging with her. Hope you will enjoy this event. December 12th is her feast day in the Roman Catholic faith. I am now heavily into to Taoism but still maintain my devotion to the Divine Feminine in her many versions.

Welcome to A Creative Harbor. Hope you enjoy your visit and will come by again. The photo above is of another view from my home. This was actually a sunrise on a day that was slowly turning gray. Thus, when I completed taking the photo it reminded me of night time. Nature is an every day wonder.

We linked today with 52 Photos Project and the prompt was for 'twinkling lights'. I felt the photo above reminded me of 'twinkling lights'. I also took another photo which definitely has the more conventional 'twinkling lights' connotation. It is obviously the second photo. Yet, I love the top photo better. The above photo I took last week as the sun was rising. I came out into the living room from the bedroom and was greeted with this magical, mystical sunrise. It filled me with delight and peace all at the same time. I am grateful each day and night for the incredible palette of the Divine Spirit.

The collage above is one of my more 'zen' like collages. I find that when I try and keep life simple I am more relaxed and at peace with myself and the world. I am finding that the more I create the less complex I want my paintings to be. Of course, now I have confessed that, my 'ego' may waltz me around and get complex on me. Essentially, though, my style has always been that 'simplicity is beautiful.'

Welcome to our world. As Zoe and I walked through the park today, I began to see the color red rather frequently. When we first got out of the car, I saw the playground with all its wonderful colors, especially red.
This is truly a wonderful place as it surrounded by the harbor on two sides. The photo directly above is a lane that runs along the harbor and has park benches to sit on and relax. The park has two beaches, a ball park, a rest house, tourist center, old canons from a long ago war, trails to walk through and a marvelous place to embrace Mother Nature.

This series that I am currently painting of 'She Spirits' was a magical and mystical moment for me because it meant I was getting focused and having a sense of what I wanted to paint. Until then I knew I wanted to paint but could not reach 'my passion' and really get excited about what I was painting. So it is a beginning for me. SPIRIT COLLAGE SUNDAY

Welcome to Spirit Collage Sunday. What is Spirit Collage? It is my own practice of making collage pictures that addresses where I am on ' my spiritual path' on this planet. I use whatever is in my 'art supplies' from clipped photos from magazines, to matte board as a substrate or whatever I happen to have to use as a base. I also may use crayons, stamp pads, ink pens; in other words, whatever works and is convenient.

Today my Spirit Collage is specifically about my spiritual path. My belief is that the Divine is within all of us and is all around us. We are spiritual beings and beings who are spiritual. I try to stay on 'my path' by doing art, meditating, journaling, and walking with my dog on a daily basis and at times even able to do meditation walking with her. From that point of meditation and journaling daily helps me begin my day as centered and focused and thus, able to cope efficiently and effectively as possible with what the universe might bring me that day.

Hope you will join me on my spiritual journey and maybe even share what collages, atcs, aceos or other art you might have made or what you do to stay on your spiritual path?

The first photo is of our recent acquired house guests that are wonderful. They are made of stone and are completely 'self maintained'. They are delightful and made an excellent artistic arrangement with a turquoise background.

SPIRIT COLLAGE SUNDAY

I have been creating collage artwork for over seven years now as well as other types of art work historically. Today the collage is about how 'topsy turvy' the world feels sometimes. With the moon in the wrong place (could be read another way also) and the wondering and seeking for knowledge and wisdom. Thus, of course, I chose the owl as symbolic of 'wisdom'.

This type of collage is very simple and easy to do. You, certainly, can make it as complex as you want. The base is a matte board and I used a stamp pad to ink the background. From there I sketched an owl and used color pencils to colorize her. I have a notebook of clipped photos from recycled magazines and that is where the tree, the moon and the sun came from to hold this collage's focus. Then I began to glue each piece on to the matte board. Because I am not selling these, I use this type of collage as way to keep 'dabbling' and expressing myself. It also is a technique that I used in my previous life when working as a psychotherapist. It allows one the time and space to work on color, design, composition and tone for other art work. I hope you will give it a try and if you would like to have your collage posted here that would be wonderful! I would love to have you share your work. So, go play, go create, go to your room and do art!

Fall had barely begun then Winter seemed to move in. We had no real Fall and so it is hard to know lately where one season ends and the other begins. We had a real N'or ester this weekend. Yet the roses I had taken a photo of were still as vibrant as ever today as my dog and I took our walk so glad to be outside with nature. Hope you enjoy the photos and enjoy the day today. A MAGICAL SUNRISE

I remember the morning of this sunrise. When I went into the living room, upon rising for the day, here was this magnificent sun rise and I was filled with this magical, mystical feeling of how blessed I was to be seeing this. I then grabbed my camera and went out on to the deck, with my little Yorkie scooting behind me to see what I was up to now. When I was able to capture this photo, I felt filled with the magic of the Universe. I am so happy to be able to share this with you. I hope this will fill your week with visions of incredible sunrises and radiant light to walk with you through the week.

Welcome to A Creative Harbor and Spirit Collage Sunday. I have been creating collage artwork for over seven years now as well as other types of art work historically. Today, though, is about a very simple type of collage. A small group of women friends recently decided to get together and do some type of art ~ namely, collage. There are about 5 of us in this lively group and we are exploring our creativity and our own personal styles through collage. Christie who did the above collage called 'All my relations' has done some collage work before and she quickly got into her own creativity and has done a great job! Bravo to her and to Joanne, Gitama, myself. Another woman hopes to join the fun soon.

Joanne came supplied with all types of ephemera besides photos from magazines. She has buttons in her collage, a sea shell and more. I love the variety of colors and her style. She says she has never done any collaging. She seems to enjoy it, doing well and having fun like the rest of us.

As you can see each woman has her own style and that is what is so wonderful about collaging. There is much freedom to express what you feel with ease and fun. She said this wasn't quite done, yet, I think it is quite pretty and nearing completion.

MY MONKEY MIND by Carol

The above one is mine and the photo is impacted by the light as I just took a photo of it tonight ~ so the contrast is not quite right. At any rate you get the idea, I was trying to depict what a 'monkey mind' I can have sometimes and like anything it can work to my advantage or disadvantage. When being playful it is good, and yet I know I need to meditate to center and focus myself to get most of my tasks done.

So there we are ~ the Collage Group enjoying creating and playing with glue, scissors, buttons, shells and paper. There are a million ways to treat collage and this is just one way and it is very free. We let ourselves relax and play together as artists.

Obviously my Sock Monkey is for Ruby Tuesday. I actually bought this for myself when I was shopping for a hostess gift for a party I was going to. He was so adorable and so colorful and so he is now decorating my house. Nice to treat yourself, huh?

Welcome, Spirit Collage Sunday and come join the fun with a Blog Hop at link above and stay here to learn how to make your very own 'oracle' cards. It's Free. Collaging is very freeing as well for the Spirit.

Spirit Collages are very simple or complicated to make. It all depends on you. Basically, you start with finding images that 'speak to your soul' from magazines (no worry about copyright as you are not selling your cards and by the time you have cut and pasted the images could look very different anyway). You can use your own art work as well. Good way to recycle paintings or creations you didn't like.So once you have gathered the images then you paste them on matte board ~ or card board or any surface your would like.Traditionally they are approximately 8" x 5" as it is an easy size to create (you may use any size you like and any material) with and handle as an 'oracle' card. That is the physical process. The mental and emotional process is very individually chosen and expressed. I am still on the psychology realm. We all have 'self talk' that acts like a MonkeyMind of voices you have in your head about emotions essentially. Or just collage whatever feelings you are feeling.

My card above '2x2 is about my feelings of being single in a 2x2 world and how I sometimes think about meeting a 'mate' but am somewhat ambivalent about it ~ I was widowed seven years ago and really miss, at times, that wonderful companionship. So I made this card as visual of my 'emotional need' to have a special someone in my life. Then I began to think how it doesn't have to be 'a person' it could be my passion to create. Let's see what happens. So try a Spirit Collage and put your dreams on one. In the meantime, you are having fun creating with no heavy pressure ~ just fun!
