POETRY SATURDAY

FROM THE BEACH

A CREATIVE HARBOR

POETRY SATURDAY

BEACH HOUSE

Drive the pilings deep!
Safe from the sweep
Of the sea,
Or foamy fingers
Coming at high tide
Will search out
Every weakness,
Every flaw.

Even so,
Along the shore
There'll always be
Driftwood
At low tide:
A rotting spar,
The splintered jag
Of mast,
A fishing float
Or flag ~
Grayed harbingers
Of fate,
Long dead reminders
That the sea
Can wait.
